Updated 25th May 2024
We are continuing with services and other events as much as possible.
Our community hall has been refurbished and is ready to rent. It is suitable for a wide range of activities and classes as well as parties and concerts. Please contact Angela at hall@stmarks.london for more details and book your slot.
The roof trusses which have caused so much consternation have now been safely removed.
The damaged beams and detritus have been safely from the tower and the archaeologists have finished their work in the west end of the church, particularly around the font.
The font is badly damaged but has been boxed over to prevent further damage.
The archaeologists have completed their painstaking work finding fragments of mosaic tiles and pieces of stained glass. It's like the world's biggest jigsaw puzzle! The pieces have been removed for safe storage until the conservators can look at what might be retained or reused.
Our Community Audit is complete and is being used to draw up all of the necessary documentation to produce an architects's brief. Once this is done we will be able to invite designs from architects and begin the process of rebuilding for the next century. We expect to use the existing walls and we intend that the tower will remain intact.
